First Generation

1. John (Jean) Paddock (PADDOC) was born on 19 July 1550 in Le Cateau, Cambrai, Nord, France. He died on 3 April 1603 at the age of 52 in Tullygovan, County Louth, Ireland. [Paddock9.FBK.FTW]

Fled to England from France "for religious as well as political reasons" in 1580. He then emigrated to Ireland and settled in Stevenstown, County Dublin in the same year. He also owned land in Tullygovan, County Louth, near Killany. On October 3, 1589, John and his family were mentioned in the will of his father Paul Paddoc, Siegneur de Le Cateau et de Montherme.

He was a blacksmith in Tullgovan and died intestate.

It appears that this 'escape' from France to Protestant England is considered part of the Huguenot migrations. I had always thought that it was too early and that the official Huguenot migrations were later in the 17th century, but I may have been mistaken. Note that they were 'encouraged' to migrate further into Northern Ireland to help England develop the country with Protestants.

John (Jean) Paddock (PADDOC) and Jane (Jeanette) Jennings (JENNIN)1 were married on 12 August 1580 in Ireland. Jane (Jeanette) Jennings (JENNIN) was born about 1560 in Pas de Calais, France. She died on 15 May 1607 at the age of 47 in Killany, Ireland.
