Known to be in Plymouth in 1643 - assumed arrived some years before
Never a freeman of the colony.

Originally known as the Robert Paddock of the Barony of Ardee, County Louth, Ireland.

He was a blacksmith and Constable of Plymouth.

Pierce's Colonial Lists: Robert Paddock was listed as a non-comissioned officer of the Plymouth Company Militia. (P. 76)

Same source: Robert Paddock is listed as a selectman in 1646. (P. 48)

NEHG, Vol 12, page 220, 1858:
1. Robert Paddock, the Pilgrim ancestor, was settled in Plymouth in 1634, and probably several years before and after that time. He afterwards settled in Duxbury, and is noticed in Windsor's history of that town. He died in 1650. See Reg., vol 9, p. 316. He had a son, Robert, who lived in Darmouth; and John Eddy, son of Samuel, the Pilgrim, married his daughter, Susanna, Nov 30, 665. He had also a son John, and there are families of his descent now in that region. Also, Zechariah, brother of said John Eddy, married Alicke Paddock, daughter of Robert Paddock of Duxbury, May 7, 1663. It is probable she was the daughter of the first Robert, who also left a son, Zechariah, born in the "fore part of the year," May, 1636; also George and John. George married Sarah Ricard in 1657. John married Anna Jones; he was born in 1643. Mary, his daughter, m. Thomas Roberts, 1656; she was born in 1638. Alice was born March 7, 1640.

Curfman, p 23:
After his death in 1650 "some f the Children of Robert Paddocke Deceased" were entered in the Plymouth Colony Vital Records:
"The Register of the age of some of the Children of Robert Paddocke Deceased
Imprimis William Palmer the son in law of the said Robert Paddocke; was borne the 27th of June 1634
Zacariah Paddocke the son of Robert Paddocke was bornee the 20th of march 1636
Mary the Daughter of Robert Paddocke was borne the tenth of March 1638
Allis the Daughter of Robert Paddocke was borne the 7th of March 1640
John the sone of Robert Paddocke was borne the first of Aprill 1643
there are two other that are before registered in this booke"

Thus the births of Zachariah, Mary, Alice and John were recorded in the Plymouth Colony Records, and indirectly Elizabeth, not named but implied by reference to her husband William Palmer "the son in law of said Robert Paddocke" Robert, Jr. and Elizabeth were likely the "two other that are before registered in this booke" but the accidental omission of Susanna from this list is not accounted for. (The original record of Plymouth births does not extend earlier than 1648, as it now stand. The first few pages are badly worn and there are pages missing.) Some accounts included a potential son George, probably due to an error in an early article on the Paddock family (NEHGR 12:220) wherein this supposed son was said to have married Sarah Ricard in 1657. The original record reads: "Georg Pidcock & Sarah Ricard marryed the XVIth may 1640 Plymouth"

Robert PADDOCK , Jr was born in 1632–34 in Plymouth County, MA.15 He lived in Dartmouth, Bristol, MA.16 Curfman p 26:
Robert, Jr, born about 1632-4. Lived at one time at Darmouth, MA (NEGHR 12:220). His birthdate sometimes given just 1634 but unsubstantiated, probably due to a mininterpretation of the incomplete entry of the children in the Plymouth Colongy Records which begins with "the son in law born 1634." "About 1632" is reasonable. There appear to be no known records of his death or of a possible marriage. Only his name has be perpetuated through private family records.

Mary PADDOCK was born on 10 March 1637/8 in Plymouth Colony, MA. Curfman, p23:
On 3 Dec 1650 Mary Paddock of Plymouth, Widow, sold to Stephen Wood of Plymouth, Smith, for £9 10s. "her house, garden plot, and shop situated in Plymouth aforesaid, in the South Street" and about "3 acres of upland in the New field" bounded by the lands of Richard Sparrow and John Thompson. It was agreed she could dwell in the huse until March the following year when payment was due.
Richard Sparrow conveyed his land adjoining this Paddock lot, regarding which there was a memorandum 22 Nov 1656: "That Richard Sparrow of the Towne of Eastham in the Jurisdiction of Plymouth in New England Doth acknowlidge...hee hath...sold unto...Gorge Bonum...his house and garden plott Scittuat in Plymouth aforsaid on the south street of the said towne...with six acres of upland in the Newfeild...Lying betwixt the land of John Wood...and the land of Robert Paddocke."
It is now believed that it was Mary Paddock the Widow who married (2) Plymouth 24 March 1651 Thomas Roberts of Duxbury, MA rather than her daughter Mary.
